Faith Formation News
Dear Sacred Heart Faith Formation Families,
“Love begins at home, and it is not how much we do... but how much love we put in that action.” ~St. Mother Teresa
Summer is coming to an end, and school is going to start in a month! I hope your summers has been filled with many fun adventures and family times. I have had opportunities to travel, just relax, and spend time with my family back in Iowa where I became an aunt again to my first niece. (I now have three nephews and one niece.)
This year we are focusing on building a community with the youth here at Sacred Heart. We have lots of new and exciting events happening to help us build this community of faith among the youth! We are very eager and cannot wait for the year to start! I will highlight a few of the new events happening in this letter. With this letter, you have the Registration Form, please note we have raised the registration cost to $50. We will have a registration weekend on August 26/27 after Masses. You may sign-up that weekend, drop them off in the offices, or bring them to the kick-off Mass on September 6.
We will kick-off the year starting September 6 with a Faith Formation Mass for all grades Kindergarten through 12 at 7:00 PM. We will take a week off, Sept. 13, for the Fall Festival. Then, we’ll come back together on Sept. 20 with a Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser for NCYC and our Youth Ministry programs from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM in Nativity Hall. Come enjoy supper before our first classes and parent session! Watch for more details of the event and how to volunteer for it soon!
The first new event is hosting three Parent Sessions for all parents in grades 5-12. These parent sessions are to help you grow in your faith journey, equip you with tools and resources to teach your children our faith, and be an opportunity to share your successes and struggles of passing on our faith in today’s society. The dates for these sessions are September 20, October 11 and January 10 from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. On October 11, we will have a guest speaker, Joe Roueche from the Twin Cities who works at NET Ministries, to speak and inspire to us to serve as the “first witnesses” of our Faith. All parent sessions will be held in Nativity Hall and are mandatory.
Starting this year, Confirmation Preparation years will start in 10th Grade and continue into 11th Grade. The Rite of Confirmation will still be in 11th Grade. We are also moving the 11th Grade back to Wednesday night. The two years of Confirmation Preparation will both be on Wednesday nights from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM in the Parish Center. The first year they will start discussing their Confirmation Preparation, and in the second year they will transition into planning their spiritual formation plan for after they are confirmed.
The other big event happening this year is High School Gatherings on a couple of Wednesday nights. These high school gatherings will be for all students in grades 9-12 from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM in Nativity Hall. The high school gathering will consist of sharing fellowship and a meal together followed by a guest speaker and/or a service project. The two dates of the high school gatherings will be October 25 and February 21.
I am very grateful for God bringing me here to Waseca. I have greatly enjoyed the warm welcome and getting to know everyone including the youth. I am eagerly looking forward for this year to start.
