Building and Grounds Committee

Purpose: To insure Sacred Heart buildings and grounds best serve our parish needs.

Responsibilities: To keep maintenance up to date for the Sacred Heart buildings and equipment. To comply with building codes and insurance mandates. To assist in the development of buildings and grounds as necessary.

Meeting Frequency and Time: Four 2-hour meetings per year.

Additional Time Requirements: As needed for projects, etc.

Duration of Commitment Needed: 3 years

Cemetery Upkeep & Care

Purpose: To oversee the financial stability, grounds maintenance, sale and upkeep of burial plots (Calvary, St. Mary’s and St. Jarlath’s). Our cemeteries must be kept well groomed and clean of debris so visitors know that we have the utmost respect for those interred on these grounds. The committee is made up of the pastor; a secretary/treasurer; two trustees for each cemetery, appointed by the pastor; and at least three other parishioners.

Responsibilities: To provide physical help with the care of the three cemeteries as determined by the Cemetery trustees.

Time Commitment: Cleanup days scheduled in the spring and fall. Set up for and clean up after the Memorial Day Mass at cemetery.

Duration of Commitment Needed: 3 years

Additional Requirements: Cleanup assistance may be needed after summer storms.

CEMETERY REGULATIONS

The Sacred Heart Cemetery board wishes to remind you of the regulations that our three cemeteries have posted at Calvary, St. Jarlath and St. Mary’s cemeteries.

  • All flowers or decorations must be in elevated stands.
  • All stands must be in line with headstones.
  • Memorial Day flowers and decorations must be removed by June 15th unless in elevated stands.
  • NOT ALLOWED: Dug in plants, glass, ground placed articles of any kind, shepherd’s hooks and wire.
  • If flowers or decorations not in elevated stands, are left after June 15th, the Cemetery Committee will pick them up.

Thank you to all who made a donation to our three cemeteries at the Memorial Day Mass. If you didn’t get a chance to do so then, but wish to, just place your envelope in the collection basket.

Clerical Help for Music & Liturgy

Purpose: To provide office assistance to the Music & Liturgy Director and/or choir directors in weekly preparation for liturgical events (Mass, rehearsals, concerts, other events).

Responsibilities: To assist with various tasks, such as filing, setting up binders, etc.

Clerical Office Volunteer

Purpose: To provide clerical assistance in the front office.

Responsibilities: To assist with mailings and the bulletins and misc. office tasks.

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours weekly or monthly.

Additional Time Requirements: The hours vary according to the number of volunteers and projects.

Education Endowment Fund Committee

Purpose: To manage the Endowment Fund of Sacred Heart and gift only the annual earnings to Sacred Heart Parish. Thus, contributions to the fund become perpetual gifts. These monies provide financial assistance to assure quality Catholic education at Sacred Heart. This committee consists of six members and the current pastor.

Responsibilities: To provide oversight to the fund and communicate with the financial advisors. To conduct appeals to encourage Sacred Heart parishioners and school alumni to contribute through cash donations, memorials, bequests, insurance policies and investments. All gifts are tax deductible.

Meeting Frequency and Time: Meets 6 times/year: February, April, May, August, October and November.

Additional Time Requirements: As needed.

Duration of Commitment Needed: 3 year term, may serve 2 consecutive terms

Additional Requirements: Financial knowledge is required for membership. Application with the pastor and committee is required.

Front Office Volunteer

Purpose: To act as a receptionist in the parish office.

Responsibilities: To answer the telephone and greet and assist parishioners and visitors with tasks such as scheduling Mass intentions, and taking registrations for parish activities.

Time Commitment: 1-4 hours per week.

Duration of Commitment Needed: 1 year

Additional Requirements: Basic interpersonal office skills, sensitivity to individual needs and confidentiality are required.

Money Counters

Purpose: To count, record and deposit monies collected on Sunday and Holy Days.

Responsibilities: To work in a team of two to three to count monies taken up in collections. To take the deposit to the drop box at the bank immediately after counting.

Time Commitment: Two hours per Monday as scheduled. When a Holy Day occurs during the week, the collection will be counted the following day.

Meeting Frequency and Time: Meet in the rectory from 9:10 a.m.-11:10 a.m. one or two Mondays per month.

Additional Time Requirements: We have an annual training/refresher meeting in the fall of the year (September or October) which requires a 1-hour commitment.

Duration of Commitment Needed: 3 years

Additional Requirements: Ability to sort and count money and follow the checklist. Ability to use an electronic calculator. Trustworthy and conscientious. Punctual and dependable. Attention to detail.

Parish Finance Council

Purpose: To be a consultative body providing assistance and recommendations to the pastor concerning the stewardship of the parish’s fiscal resources, including long-range financial planning to support the mission of the parish.

Time Commitment: 2 hours per month

Meeting Frequency and Time: Third Tuesday of the month, 5:15 p.m.

Additional Time Requirements: Occasional 1-hour extra meetings.

Duration of Commitment Needed: 3-year term

Additional Requirements: Application with the pastor and discernment team is required. Must be a fully initiated Catholic who has belonged to the parish for at least four years. Must be attending Sunday and Holy Day Masses.

Parish Pastoral Council

Purpose: To be a consultative body that the pastor can prayerfully reflect with and ask for assistance to guide in the overall care and ministry of the parish, the fulfillment of its mission and direction of the parish.

Time Commitment: 2 hours per month.

Meeting Frequency and Time: Third Tuesday of the month at 6:45 p.m.

Duration of Commitment Needed: 3-year term

Additional Requirements: Application with the pastor and discernment team is required. Must be a fully initiated Catholic who has belonged to the parish for at least four years. Must be attending Sunday and Holy Day Masses.

Sacred Heart School & Sacred Heart Children's House Board of Education

Purpose: To assist the school principal, the preschool director and the pastor in supporting our schools’ mission to promote lifelong learning and Christian values.

Responsibilities: To formulate and approve policies for the good governance of the school. To assist in the hiring process of the principal and teachers of the school. To formulate and approve tuition rates, registration fees, and lunch fees.. To serve as an advisory board for planning, operating and maintaining of facilities and equipment.

Time Commitment: Appx. 2 hours monthly.

Meeting Frequency and Time: Second Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. in the school library, no meetings in July and December.

Additional Time Requirements: Fall Festival outdoor game planning and working as shift supervisor (4 hours total). Catholic Schools Week Breakfast planning and working the event (6 hours total).

Commitment Needed: 3-year term

Additional Requirements: Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to the school mission through regular attendance at board meetings and a willingness to share ideas, support Catholic ideals and work well with others. Application and interview with the pastor and discernment team required.
