Funeral Luncheon Committee

Purpose: To assist in providing a meal after a funeral at Sacred Heart.

Responsibilities: To set up for funeral meals (tables, etc.), serve food and clean up.

Grief Support Ministry

Purpose: To offer sessions of grief support, especially around the holiday season.

Responsibilities: To invite those grieving to a series of sessions. To secure presenters for this series. To provide hospitality and welcome at the sessions.

Habitat for Humanity

Purpose: To work in partnership with people in need to provide affordable housing. Houses are sold for no profit and no interest.

Responsibilities: To select families, offer support and send out applications. To set up training, building, finance and support activities.

Legislative Advocacy

Purpose: To create awareness among Sacred Heart parishioners of the status of social justice issues during the legislative sessions. Those who are interested in education and advocacy should consider this ministry.

Responsibilities: To provide information tables, action alerts and advocacy on social justice issues.

Time Commitment: One or two 90-minute meetings during legislative time.

Additional Time Requirements: As needed for setting up displays or advocacy action.

Duration of Commitment Needed: 2 years

Mass Videography

Purpose: To videotape the Mass to be shown to the homebound and the residents at the nursing home and assisted living facilities.

Responsibilities: To operate camera at the 8 a.m. Mass. To deliver the tape to City Hall for playback on the public access channel.

Time Commitment: 1 1/2 hours each Sunday scheduled. Schedules are issued quarterly.

Additional Time Requirements: Occasional training on new equipment.

Duration of Commitment Needed: 3 years

Mitten Tree

Purpose: To provide hats, mittens and scarves to families in need.

Responsibilities: To invite parishioner involvement via the bulletin and website. To set up the Mitten Tree in the back of the church. To deliver the goods to the Neighborhood Service Center for distribution via Santa Anonymous.

Time Commitment: 3-4 hours in November and December.

Duration of Commitment Needed: 1 year

Purpose: To help meet the health care needs of the community in a spirit of Christian concern for others.

Prayer Chain

Purpose: To offer prayers for anyone in need. Anyone who is in need of prayers or has a loved one in need of lprayers can have a name added to the prayer list. The prayer recipient does not need to be a member of Sacred Heart parish or a Catholic.  New prayer lists will be distributed every 3 months.

Responsibilities: To offer prayers daily for those on the Prayer Chain list.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Purpose: To knit or crochet prayer shawls to be given to individuals who are ill, grieving or struggling.

Responsibilities: To produce the prayer shawls through the skill of knitting or crocheting and by prayer.

Respect Life Committee

Purpose: To promote respect for life from conception to natural death.

Responsibilities: To go to the March for Life at the Capitol and prayer service. To hold an oratory contest for high school juniors and seniors. To hand out Mother's Day & Father's Day holy cards and pins. To work at the Waseca County Fair Pro-Life booth. To stand at the Waseca Area Life Chain.  To promote fiinancial donations as a yearly project to help the Catholic Charities Mother and Child Fund.  To work on a presentation for youth of our parish.To look into natural family planning for couples. To help the elderly with "will to live" and other issues.

Meeting Frequency and Time: Third Tuesday of January, March, June, August and November at 6:30 p.m.

Sacred Service Ministry

 

Purpose: To increase the connection between the church and the community by helping those in need make minor repairs to their homes.

Responsibilities:  Repair examples could include: access ramps, steps, doors and windows.  Replacing or adding smoke or carbon monoxide detectors.  Repair projects will be determined and prioritized by: need to increase safety of a home, need to upgrade handicapped modifications, materials and skills needed to complete projects.  Time commitment varies. 

Coordinator will match volunteer skills to project needs.

Responsibilities: To give occasional companionship, chore assistance, housecleaning and respite to those in need. To take parishioners to doctors or dentist appointments.

Time Commitment: Varies. Coordinator will match volunteer with need.

Social Concerns Committee

Purpose: To help people survive a crisis and take social action to remove problems causing crisis.

Responsibilities: To reach out in prayer and service to our community. To help organize parish projects, such as projects with our sister parish in Kyle, South Dakota; Christmas projects; fruit baskets; Christmas Sharing Tree; and reach out to elderly.

Meeting Frequency and Time: First Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the youth room.

The Sister Parish Program

Purpose: To link the parishes of Sacred Heart and Our Lady of Sorrows in Kyle, South Dakota, with the realities of each others' lives, cultures and religions.

Responsibilities: To share our cultures, time, talent and treasure through Visitor Exchange and Youth Mission. To collect and deliver used clothing, beds and washing machines to our sister parish. To assist in projects helping parishioners in our sister parish by participating in the yearly mission trip to Kyle.

Time Commitment: Varies based on projects.

Duration of Commitment Needed: 1 year
