Accompanist (Piano/Organ)

Purpose: To accompany/lead a cantor/choir and assembly in liturgical song to enhance the prayerfulness of the Mass.

Responsibilities: To play the planned music, as given by the Music Director or other appropriate resources, at scheduled Masses. To practice required music outside of Mass.

Time Commitment: 1-2 times per month, 1-1.5 hours each.

Meeting Frequency and Time: Arranged with cantor/choir, usually 30-60 minutes prior to scheduled Sunday.

Additional Time Requirements: Practice time at home.

Duration of Commitment Needed: Year-round.  Musicians are scheduled by church season. Cantors may submit dates of unavailability prior to the schedule release.

Additional Requirements: Must be a proficient pianist and/or organist.  Experience accompanying a plus, but a period of training/mentoring can be provided to skilled individuals wishing to become a proficient accompanist.

Adult Bell Choir

Purpose: To accompany the cantor/choir and assembly in liturgical song to enhance the prayerfulness of the Mass.

Responsibilities: To attend scheduled practices prior to scheduled Masses.

Time Commitment: 1-3 services a year (2 hours each) and 4-5 practices before each service (1.5 hours each).

Commitment Needed: Seasonal

Additional Requirements: Must be able to read music quickly and count in various time signatures proficiently. Must have good range of motion.

Adult Choir

Purpose: To lead the assembly in liturgical song to enhance the prayerfulness of the Mass.

Meeting Frequency and Time: Weekly. Wednesday evenings at 7:15 for 1 hour.

Additional Time Requirements:  Christmas Concert

Duration of Commitment Needed: September through May.

Altar Server

Purpose: To serve Mass with reverence and dignity. Open to all students fourth grade and older.

Responsibilities: To arrive 15 minutes before Mass to dress and light candles. To pray and sing along with the parishioners. To assist in the cleanup after Mass. To fill in when needed at any Mass.

Time Commitment: 90 minutes on Sunday when scheduled.

Meeting Frequency and Time: The schedule is produced for each four-month period.

Additional Time Requirements: Training as needed.

Duration of Commitment Needed: 1 year

Additional Requirements: Must attend altar server training.

Purpose: To lead the assembly in liturgical song to enhance the prayerfulness of the Mass.

Cherub Choir

Purpose: To lead the assembly in liturgical song to enhance the prayerfulness of the Mass.

Responsibilities: To attend scheduled Sunday Masses. To attend weekly rehearsals on Wednesdays.

Time Commitment: 1-1.25 hours per week (plus 1.5 hours on a scheduled Sunday).

Meeting Frequency and Time: Weekly.  Wednesday afternoon 4:00pm-4:45pm.

Additional Time Requirements: If interested in cantoring, students can audition at any time.

Duration of Commitment Needed: September through May.

Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion

Purpose: To distribute the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ at Mass.

Responsibilities: To distribute Holy Communion when scheduled. To be aware of the need for additional ministers at any Mass attending. To find own substitute when you cannot meet the schedule.

Meeting Frequency and Time: Scheduled one month at a time.

Additional Time Requirements: 90 minutes of in-service training/enrichment.

Duration of Commitment Needed: 1 year

Additional Requirements: Must be a registered, active, confirmed Catholic, commissioned by the pastor.

Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion to the Federal Correctional Institution

Purpose: To serve the needs of the Catholic population at the FCI from 12-2pm for Word and Communion Service on Sunday.

Responsibilities: To bring the Eucharist and pamphlets to the FCI before 8 a.m. Mass; to distribute the Holy Communion and to assist the deacons at the service.

Time Commitment: 2 hours every 4-5 weeks.

Commitment Needed:
1 year

Additional Requirements: Must be a registered, active, confirmed Catholic. Commissioned by the pastor. FCI volunteer training must be completed.

Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion to the Homebound

Purpose: To bring Holy Communion to home bound parishioners. To be a communication link between home bound parishioners and the rest of the parish family.

Responsibilities: To bring Holy Communion to our homebound parishioners as scheduled. To bring the prayers and concern of the entire parish community for the persons visited. To provide a parish bulletin and parish news.

Time Commitment: Varies by number of participants being served.

Additional Time Requirements: 90-minute enrichment in-service yearly.

Duration of Commitment Needed: 1 year

Additional Requirements: Must be a registered, active, confirmed Catholic, Commissioned by the pastor.  Complete Vitus training.

Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion to the Hospital

Purpose: To provide Holy Communion to all Catholic patients at Waseca Medical Center.

Responsibilities: To share Commuinion and pray with Catholic patioents.

Time Commitment: 1 hour/day for a week, 1 week about every 2 months (flexible scheduling).

Commitment Needed:
1 year

Additional Requirements: Must be a registered, active, confirmed Catholic. Commissioned by the pastor.

Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion to the Nursing Home

Purpose: To provide Holy Communion to Catholic residents of the nursing home.

Responsibilities: To provide residents with viewing of taped Sunday Mass.  Assist staff with gathering residents.  Distribute holy Communion to the residents.

Time Commitment: 2 hours per/month.

Meeting Frequency and Time: Rotating schedule, one Sunday per month.

Additional Time Requirements: Annual in-service training

Commitment Needed: 1 year

Additional Requirements: Must be a registered, active, confirmed Catholic. Commissioned by the pastor.  Complete Virtus training.

Hospitality Ministry (Usher)

Purpose: To help provide a welcoming atmosphere for all who attend our weekend and Holy Day Masses.

Responsibilities: To greet and welcome people to worship. To tend to the parishioners' needs and assist in locating a place to sit. To gather the gifts at the offertory and to take money to the bank after Mass. To assist at communion time. To hand out the bulletin. To clean up the pews after Mass.  To watch for health, safety and weather alerts during the time of Mass. To find own substitute.

Time Commitment: 90 minutes for each Mass scheduled.

Meeting Frequency and Time: Scheduled for a month at a time.

Additional Time Requirements: 90-minute enrichment once per year.

Commitment Needed: 1 year

Additional Requirements: Training in use of defibrillator.

Instrumentalist

Purpose: To accompany an ensemble to enhance the prayerfulness of the Mass.

Responsibilities: To accompany musicians in the planned music at scheduled Masses.

Time Commitment: Varies, dependent on individual availability. Larger demand for Christmas, Easter, Confirmation, etc.

Meeting Frequency and Time: Arranged with cantor/choir, usually 30-45 minutes prior to scheduled Sunday.

Additional Time Requirements: Extra rehearsals as needed.

Duration of Commitment Needed: 1 year

Additional Requirements: Must be proficient on your instrument. A period of training/mentoring can be provided to skilled individuals wishing to become a proficient accompanist.

Lector

Purpose: To proclaim the Word of God and participate more fully in the Mass.

Responsibilities: To read the prescribed selections from the Old and New Testaments at Mass. To prepare for proclaiming the Word before each assigned Mass. To attend training sessions. To find own substitute.

Time Commitment: Training before assuming role of lector. Preparation before each time of lectoring at Mass.

Meeting Frequency and Time: Scheduled for 1 month at a time for a particular Mass time.

Additional Time Requirements: Annual enrichment session.

Duration of Commitment Needed: 1 year

Liturgical Environment Committee

Purpose: To mark the liturgical seasons of the church year through design and decoration.

Responsibilities: To decorate the church for each liturgical season. To work on special projects such as creating mobiles, etc. To care for the plants placed in the church.

Time Commitment: 3-4 hours per month.

Additional Time Requirements: Easter and Christmas require extra time as well as First Communion, Confirmation and graduation.

Duration of Commitment Needed: 1 year

Additional Requirements: Interest in flowers and decorating a plus. Liturgical environment formation is needed.

Martha's Ministry

Purpose: To ensure a clean environment in the worship space.

Responsibilities: To do dusting and light housekeeping duties in the church, for example, before special celebrations.

Time Commitment: As available.

Meeting Frequency and Time: Varies.

Additional Requirements: Sign up for e-mail notifications of special cleaning times; come and help if you can.

Men's Group (Music)

Meeting Frequency and Time: 1 hour prior to Mass on scheduled Sunday or Saturday.

Commitment Needed: September - May

Praise & Worship

Time Commitment: 2 hours per month, plus any additional rehearsals.

Meeting Frequency and Time: 1 hour prior to scheduled Mass.

Duration of Commitment Needed: December through May.

Sacristan

Purpose: To prepare for the Mass by setting out the required liturgical items.

Responsibilities: To prepare altar and side table with items needed during the Mass. To wash the wine distribution cups after Mass.

Time Commitment: 15 minutes each, before and after Mass.

Meeting Frequency and Time: As per schedule. Approximately 1 month/year for a specific Mass time.

Additional Time Requirements: Half-hour training each May.

Duration of Commitment Needed: 1 year

St. Ephrem Choir (Grades 5-8)

Purpose: To lead the assembly in liturgical song to enhance the prayerfulness of the Mass.

Responsibilities: To lead the assembly in the planned music, as given by the Music Director or other appropriate resources, at scheduled Masses. To attend rehearsals, usually on Wednesdays. If interested, participate as a cantor/accompanist.

Time Commitment: 1 hour approximately 2 times per month, plus 90 minutes on a scheduled Sunday. Rehearsal Wednesday 5:45-6:25pm.

Duration of Commitment Needed: September through May.
