Adult Faith Formation Committee

Purpose:  To foster ongoing faith formation of adults.  Topics include: liturgy, sacrament, morality, Scripture and forms of prayer.

Responsibilities:  To prepare and participate in faith formation.  To create and set up audiovisuals.  To facilitate a group. To brainstorm new ideas.

Time Commitments: 2 hours/session.

Meeting Frequency and Time: 6-8 times/year.

Commitment Needed: 2 years.

Catechist Ministry

Purpose: To support Sacred Heart parents in the faith formation of their children.

Responsibilities: To prepare and lead grade-level weekly sessions. To assist in the adult faith formation sessions for the parents of the students. To contact families of participants. To assist the coordinator in other activities as needed. There are several teams of catechists needed for grades K-3, 4-6, 7-10, 11 and 12.

Time Commitment: 1-hour prep per session plus classroom time each week.

Meeting Frequency and Time: Weekly classes September through April.

Additional Time Requirements: In-service training sessions twice yearly for 90 minutes.

Duration of Commitment Needed: 1 year

Additional Requirements: Good faith life and ability to work with children. Virtus training required.

Marriage Mentors

Purpose: To guide couples preparing for marriage.

Responsibilities: To help couples live out God’s plan for their marriage through the Prepare/Enrich Inventory. Marriage mentors are couples who are motivated and excited to help guide the newly engaged couples through the challenges of beginning a new life together. The primary goal of marriage mentoring is to help equip couples for a Christ-centered marriage by teaching them vital skills in communication and conflict resolution and by sharing their own faith and life experiences.

Time Commitment: Marriage mentors meet with two to three newly engaged couples throughout the year.

Meeting Frequency and Time: Each mentoring scenario requires meetings once per week for 4-6 weeks. Each meeting is approximately 2 hours.

Additional Time Requirements: Twice per year there is a retreat for the mentoring couples to continue their training in theology, mentoring practices, prayer and group support and to reflect on their own marriage.

Additional Requirements: Training in theology and mentoring practices. Self-reflection on their own marriage.

Rite of Christian Initiation (RCIA) Team Member

Purpose: RCIA is a journey of conversion for those seeking full communion and those interested in learning more about their faith.

Responsibilities: To welcome inquirers who are seeking God through study and/or joining the Catholic faith. To facilitate discussions centered around our Catholic faith. The process is year-round, allowing people to join at any time.

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours/week.

Meeting Frequency and Time: Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in the Francis room of the convent building.

Sacred Heart School Volunteers

Purpose: To promote lifelong learning and Christian values.

Responsibilities: 1. To assist the principal and administrative assistant with clerical projects for the school. 2. To copy educational materials needed for principal, administrative assistant and classroom teachers. 3. To assist classroom teachers with projects and work with students in the classroom. 4. To assist the principal and teachers with supervision in the lunchroom. 5. To assist the principal and teachers with supervision on the playground. 6. To assist the SHARP teacher with supervision during our after-school program.

Time Commitment: 1. Flexible. One hour weekly. 2. Flexible. One hour weekly. 3. Flexible. One hour weekly. 4. One day a week for 1 hour (11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.) 5. One day a week for 45 minutes (11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) 6. One day a week for 1 hour (3:30-4:30 p.m.)

Duration of Commitment Needed: School year

Additional Requirements: Enjoy working in a school atmosphere with teachers, parents and students. Virtus training required.

Vacation Bible School Volunteer

Purpose: To assist in teaching children age's 4 through fourth grade stories structured around the Bible. Vacation Bible School runs for five days during the summer.

Responsibilities: To assist the Coordinators in setting up the environment, food and music and help with student activities.

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours/day for 5 days.

Duration of Commitment Needed: 1 year

Additional Requirements: Virtus training required.

Youth Ministry Commission

Purpose: To ensure that the pastoral care of young people at Sacred Heart is rooted in the parish and is integral to the life, work and mission of the parish community. The Commission consists of adults who provide vision, direction, support and advocacy for the parish's ministry to young people.

Responsibilities: To attend monthly meetings of the Commission. To serve on Commission committees as required. (In time these will be quarterly meetings.) To be actively involved in the functions of the Commission, such as advocacy, long-range planning, budget formation and support.

Commitment Needed: 2-year term

Additional Requirements: A commitment and love for young people. A willingness to share their faith in Jesus and their ongoing journey to God with others. A willingness to further their understanding of comprehensive youth ministry and youth culture.

Youth Ministy Volunteers

Purpose: To provide a Consistent Adult Presence (CAPS) for fun nights, retreats and excursions away from Sacred Heart.

Responsibilities: To chaperone Sacred Heart youth events.  To assist Youth minister as needed in the various non-classroom activities of the youth.

Time Commitment: As needed for youth activities such as retreats, fun nights, trips and excursions.

Commitment Needed:  1 year.

Additional Requirements: Virtus training required.
